“Everything else can wait, but not Agriculture.” -Jawaharlal Nehru.
Agriculture under the changing climate scenario is facing many challenges and needs utmost attention and support for the development of adaptive, resilient and sustainable livelihoods. Research outputs generated in addressing these challenges faced by agriculture need to be immediately available to all the stakeholders for understanding and finding suitable solutions. Towards this, globally many initiatives have been taken up to facilitate the data, information and knowledge sharing among the stakeholders in the agricultural research for development. Such notable global initiatives in agriculture are AIMS, AgInfra, CIARD, GODAN etc. However, a dedicated platform for sharing interim academic and research results is not available for the disciplines of agriculture. As rightly said by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, former Prime Minister of India, “Everything else can wait, but not Agriculture”. The scholarly outputs generated in agricultural research should be immediately made available publicly for the further refinement /improvement of agricultural research. Therefore, the Open Access India had taken up the initiative of establishing AgriXiv, a preprints repository for agriculture and allied sciences with the help of Centre for Open Science as part of fulfilling its objective of “development of community e-infrastructure, capacity building and framework for policies related to Open Access, Open Data and Open Education”.
